1941: Singer/songwriter/activist Willie Dunn is born William Dunn in Montreal.

1966: The Paupers are in Scarborough, Ontario for a show at the Broom & Stone. It\’s their first ever live gig. Also on the bill are Little Caesar & The Consuls and The Knaves.

1968: Joni Mitchell is in New York City at the Wollman Skating Rink during the inaugural Schaefer Music Festival.

1969: The Guess Who receive their first American gold record for “These Eyes.”

1971: Anne Murray is in Vancouver ending a two-night stand at PNE Coliseum.

1971: The Stampeders top Canada’s RPM singles chart with “Sweet City Woman,” for the second of a three-week run.

1974: Rush opens for Manfred Mann and Uriah Heep in the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh, PA. It’s the first show with new drummer Neal Peart.

1976: Paul Anka‘s duet with Odia Coates, “You’re Having My Baby,” is certified gold. This is despite feminists’ objections to the use of the word ‘my’ as in “my baby”, not “our baby.” Nonetheless, the track tops Billboard and RPM’s charts.

1977: Moxy is in Winnipeg, opening for Mahogany Rush at the Playhouse Theatre.

1979: Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush are in Lexington, KY for a show at Rupps Arena.

1980: Alice Cooper cancels a Toronto show at CNE and police are called in when 1,400 people riot. It’s automatically assumed he’s drunk, but he reportedly was on an asthma medication he’d gotten from a Canadian pharmacy that was more powerful than he’d been using Stateside, and it knocked him on his ass. Opening was Zon.

1982: Bryan Adams is in Little Mountain Sound Studio in Vancouver, working on what would become his CUTS LIKE A KNIFE album.

1982: Loverboy show up on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand, for the second time, doing “Lucky Ones.”

1989: Bruce Cockburn plays the first of two nights at Ontario Place in Toronto. The shows become his 1990 LIVE album.

1989: Kim Mitchell is in Vaughan, Ontario for the first of two nights at Kingswood Music Theatre.

1990: Holly Woods and Toronto are in Edmonton for a show at the Convention Centre with Lee Aaron.

1992: “Tell Me What You Think” by Spirit of the West peaks at #25 on the Canadian singles chart.

1993: The original Streetheart lineup reunites for the first time in 15 years for a show at Winnipeg’s Rolling Stone Cabaret – the second of a three-night run.

1996: Jacksoul release their debut album, ABSOLUTE.

1997: NASA wakes up the astronauts on the international space station by playing Moxy Fruvous‘ “You Will Go To The Moon.”

2000: The Moffats release “Bang Bang Boom,” where it tops the RPM singles chart, their only song to do so.

2001: 54-40 releases CASUAL VIEWIN’ in the US, a full year after its Canadian debut.

2001: Jimmy Rankin releases his debut solo album, SONG DOG.

2007: Finger Eleven are among the performers on the retired battleship USS New Jersey in Camden, NJ, as a promotional stunt by a Philadelphia radio station.

2008: Frank Marino is in Palatine, Illinois for a show at Durty Neillie’s.

2009: The Fables headline Edmonton’s Celtic Festival.

2010: Lee Aaron plays Riverfest outside Halifax, Nova Scotia.

2015: Lynne Hanson is in Toronto for the second of a two-night stand at Hugh’s Room.

2016: Trooper closes out Rock The Lake in Kelowna, BC. Also on the card that night are Sweeney Todd, Saga, and Headpins, in what would be Darby Mills\’ last show with them before going solo.

2018: Former Annihilator frontman Randy Rampage, real name Randall Desmond Archibald, passes away at the age of 58.

2018: Quick Draw release their debut album, WAR WITHIN.

2019: Maelstrom Vale is in Innisfail, Alberta for a show at The Zoo.

2020: I Mother Earth is supposed to be in Bonnyville, Alberta for Extreme Mudfest. The show is cancelled due to Covid-19.

2020: Kathleen Edwards releases her new album, TOTAL FREEDOM.

2020: Storm The Empire release their debut EP, KISMET.

2020: Dan Davidson & The Butter Lovers release their new single and video, “Don’t Stop Now.”
