Breaker morphed out of Calgary garage bands that centered around English native Rik Anthony, ‘Shaky’ Brian Johnston and Kevin Bradley on guitars, bassist Warren McWilliams, and drummer Doug Jones in late 1980. They refined their heavy hair metal act on the local ‘b’ circuit for a year or so, then worked their way into central Canada while working their own material into their sets. They took a trip to Round Round Studios in Weston, Ontario with producer Van Louis in early ’82. Johnston formed his own Ironhead Records and they released the indie four track EP IN DAYS OF HEAVY METAL that spring. With the lead-off “Living Free” opus title track, hey gained some momentum while selling 1,200 copies and got some extra exposure in ‘Kerrang’ metal magazine. They carried on for another year and a half before disbanding. After moving to Winnipeg, Johnston re-emerged with his new acts Lawsuit for a few EPs and one with Ironhead, which McWilliams was also in. Anthony bounced around in different bands over the years, getting songs on metal comp discs with Fountain Keeper in the mid ’80s and Samson in the ’00s. Bradley moved to California and worked in some local work, and released some solo material in the early 2000s.
