1970: The Guess Who perform in front of President Richard Nixon at the White House. Mrs. Nixon asked them ahead of time not to play "American Woman."
1970: Janis Joplin is in Louisville, Kentucky at Freedom Hall. It's her first show with her new backup band, the mostly-Canadian Full Tilt Boogie Band.
1971: Smyle peaks at #94 on the Canadian albums chart with their self-titled debut, the second of two weeks in the spot.
1976: Rush play the second of three nights in Toronto at Massey Hall. The taping becomes ALL THE WORLD'S A STAGE.
1976: Hank Snow peaks on Billboard's country chart at #87 with "Who's Been Here Since I've Been Gone?"
1976: Mahogany Rush is in Seattle for a show at Seattle Center Coliseum.
1977: Creed is in Belleville, Ontario at the Sun Valley Motor Inn closing out a six-night run.
1977: Teaze opens for Triumph at the Arena in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
1978: Nick Gilder releases the single, "Hot Child In The City." His first #1 solo single, it goes on to top both the Canadian and American pop charts.
1982: Loverboy peaks at #26 on Billboard's chart with "When It's Over."
1988: Twelve of Canada's top songwriters are honored in Vancouver by SOCAN for writing songs that had been played on Canadian radio at least 100,000 times since 1965. Two won awards for three songs - Gene MacLellan for "Snowbird," "Put Your Hand in the Hand," and "The Call," and Burton Cummings for "Stand Tall," "Break It to Them Gently" and "These Eyes."
1992: KD Lang cancels a show in Owen Sound, Ont, after local beef farmers threatened to plug the parking lot at the concert with farm vehicles and tractor-trailer rigs. Lang, a vegetarian, had upset the cattlemen by appearing in a "Meat Stinks" ad campaign.
1995: Bryan Adams tops Canada's RPM singles chart with "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman," for the third week of a five-week run.
2000: "Makes No Difference," the first single from Sum 41, precedes their debut album by a couple of weeks.
2002: Michelle Wright is in Zambia, filming a documentary for World Vision.
2002: Theory of a Deadman's first single, "Nothing Could Come Between Us" is released.
2004: Steppenwolf's John Kay and Diana Krall are the musical inductees in that year's Canada's Walk of Fame celebrations in Toronto. Kay's presenter is non other than Peter Fonda, star of "Easy Rider," the epitome of biker films.
2004: April Wine is in Norje Havsbad for the Sweden Rock Festival.
2004: Terri Clark becomes the first Canadian female member of the Grand Ole Opry.
2004: Pat Travers is on the bill at the Sweden Rock Festival, in Norje, Blekinge County.
2006: Kenny Wade brings his barebones country sets to Cold Lake, Alberta for a show at the Legion.
2007: Amnesty International releases the album INSTANT KARMA to raise awareness for the crisis in Darfur. On it is Avril Lavigne's cover of "Imagine."
2007: Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman's first collaboration outside The Guess Who, JUKEBOX, is released. The album is a collection of covers the two listened to while growing up.
2010: Anvil and Bachman & Turner are among those taking the stage in Norje Havsbad for the Sweden Rock Festival.
2012: Rush release their album, CLOCKWORK ANGELS.
2012: Coney Hatch is in Etobicoke, Ontario for a show at Rockpile.
