1933: One of Canada’s first bluegrass stars, Vic Mullen, is born in Woodstock, Nova Scotia.

1962: Harpdog Brown is born in Edmonton.

1966: Paupers are in Toronto for a show at the Gogue Inn, along with Dunc & The Deacons, and The Lively Set with Dean Curtis.

1968: Sarah McLachlan is born in Halifax.

1968: Steppenwolf release their self-titled debut album.

1968: Les Sultans are in Sherbrooke, Quebec for a show at The Starovan. The show is taped and becomes part of their live album later that year, EN PERSONNE – LES SULTANS A LA STAROVAN.

1971: Gordon Lightfoot is on The Johnny Cash Show, two weeks after his most recent appearance. He performs “If You Could Read My Mind.”

1979: Frank Mills’ “Music Box Dancer” is released.

1981: Fist opens for UFO at the Hammersmith Odeon in London, England.

1983: Triumph releases their NEVER SURRENDER album.

1984: BTO release their self-titled album on Compleat Records.

1986: Corey Hart‘s “Everything in My Heart” hits the top in Canada.

1989: Anne Murray peaks at #36 on Billboard’s country chart for the second of two weeks with “Slow Passin’ Time.”

1989: Randy Bachman joins BTO for the first time in 11 years, when they reunite at a Vancouver nightclub. They’re joined on stage by Paul Dean and Bryan Adams.

1995: Lisa Brokop is on Billboard’s country chart, peaking at #52 with “Take That.”

2002: Nelly Furtado begins a 3-month tour in Victoria, BC.

2003: Our Lady Peace is in Edmonton. The show is recorded and winds up as part of their LIVE album later that year.

2005: Nickelback‘s Ryan Vikedal, drummer since 1996, leaves the band.

2006: Holly Woods & Toronto play to a packed house in Cold Lake. But it’s actully Holly with the majority of Sweeney Todd‘s lineup at the time.

2007: In a ceremony in Toronto, Joni Mitchell and Wilf Carter are inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.

2010: Queen City Kids are in Winnipeg for a show at Silverados.

2016: The Good Brothers are in Aurora, Ontario for a show at the Royal Canadian Legion. It’s a good excuse for a birthday party for Bruce and Brian.

2017: Punch Drunk Cabaret is at the Bailey Theatre in Camrose, Alberta shooting the video for “Sweet Dreams.”

2017: The Frank are at home in Blackfalds, Alberta for a show at the BMI.

2017: Brian Greenway does a solo acoustic show at Smoke Meat Pete’s in L’ile Perrot, Quebec.

2018: In a ceremony at Duke’s in Toronto, George Olliver receives the Legacy Award from Cashbox Canada.

2018: Atomic Starz release their new single, “Come On Say It.”

2018: The 60th annual Grammy Awards are held at MSG in New York. Alessia Cara becomes the first Canadian to win best new artist. Tragically Hip‘s Gord Downie is also among the artists now gone who were honoured in a special tribute.

2019: The Juliez Andrewz Band releases its first single, “All By Myself.”

2019: Mr Mouray releaese their debut EP, ATLANTIC and its first single, “Hey!”

2023: Lee Aaron is at Casino Rama with the Headpins and Toronto

 

2019: Lex Justice is home in Edmonton for the first of a two night stand at Blues On Whyte.
