1934: Singer/songwriter Fred McKenna is born in Fredricton, NB.

1957: Loreena McKennitt is born in Morden, Manitoba.

1966: Canadian Sweethearts top Canada’s country chart with “Don’t Knock On My Door.” It stays there for three weeks.

1970: Troyka is in New York for a show at the famed Fillmore East. They’re such a hit they come back for three encores.

1970: Performing at London’s Royal Albert Hall, Joni Mitchell announces she is retiring from live performance. She changes her mind within the year.

1971: Neil Young sings “Needle and the Damage Done” and “A Journey Through the Past” when he appears on The Johnny Cash Show. He’s also the last Canadian to perform on the show, before it goes off the air a month later.

1979: The Raes perform “A Little Lovin’ Keeps The Doctor Away” when they appear on American Bandstand.

1985: Kim Mitchell and Triumph are in Dallas, Texas for a show at Reunion Arena.

1986: Cats Can Fly release their first full album, self titled.

1987: Lee Aaron releases her self-titled, fourth album.

1992: Tom Cochrane‘s debut solo album, MAD MAD WORLD is released in the US.

1998: Alannah Myles is in London, England for a show at Mean Fiddler.

2006: Gowan performs with Orchestra London the first of two shows, where the STRANGE ANIMAL is played in its entirety.

2006: Danko Jones releases his new album in Europe, SLEEP IS THE ENEMY, days before the Canadian release.

2007: Stampeders are in Meaford, Ontario for a show at the Community Hall.

2007: Avril Lavigne releases her new single, “Girlfriend.”

2010: Angels To Ashes play the second of two shows in as many nights in Saskatoon.

2010: Matthew Hornell releases his self-titled debut album.

2010: Shanneyganock brings their Newfoundland sounds to Memphis, TN for the first of four consecutive evenings.

2010: Susan Jacks receives a kidney transplant from her brother Billy.

2014: Road Hammers release their new single, “Mud.”

2015: Drake’s “If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late” enters the pop charts at #1.

2015: Whitehorse release their album, LEAVE NO BRIDGE UNBURNED.

2015: Duane Steele releases his DIRT & DREAMS album.

2015: Dallas Smith releases the title track to his LIFTED album as his new single.

2017: Matthew Good is in Vancouver for the second of a three-night run at the Commodore Ballroom.

2017: The 15th annual WinterFolk Festival begins in the Dantforth area of Toronto. On the bill over the next three days are Danny Marks, Blair Packham, Seb Agnello, Brian Blain, David Storey, Mike McKenna, and Stephanie Braganza, along with over a dozen other artists.

2017: It’s the first of nine straight shows for Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood in Edmonton. Opening for them is Brett Kissell.

2018: Shred Kelly and Band of Rascals are outside Cold Lake at Kinosoo Ridge Snow Resort during the Snojuhla winter festival, both their first time in Alberta’s Lakeland.

2018: Spoons are in St Catherine’s for a show at The Warehouse.

2018: Our Lady Peace are playing at Casino Rama
