1967: John Kay and The Sparrow are at The Matrix in San Francisco. The show is taped and released two years later as EARLY STEPPENWOLF.
1967: Gordon Lightfoot enters the Canadian pop chart with “The Way I Feel” at #94.
1967: It’s night two of a three night stand for The Paupers in San Fransisco at the Fillmore West, backing Jefferson Airplane.
1972: After dropping out of the #1 spot a month earlier, “Heart of Gold” by Neil Young tops Canada’s RPM singles chart again.
1978: Paul Anka opens a disco in Las Vegas named after his early gospel-disco flop “Jubilation.”
1980: Mahogany Rush is in Fresno, California for a shwo at Selland Arena.
1982: Roman Grey release the single, “Look Me In The Eyes.”
1983: Paul Anka files for bankruptcy when his Vegas casino flops, which was named after his gospel-disco flop “Jubilation.” The papers are filed exactly five years after the casino’s grand opening.
1987: David Foster is named songwriter of the year during the annual Broadcast Music Incorporated dinner in Los Angeles.
1992: Barenaked Ladies have signed a major record deal and play their last high school dance ever, at Bowmanville High in Toronto.
1995: Spirit of the West is at the Orpheum Theatre with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra – the second of a two-night stand. The shows are taped and become the band’s OPEN HEART SYMPHONY album the next year.
1997: Treble Charger releases their MAYBE IT’S ME album.
2003: Tommy Chong pleads guilty to selling drug paraphernalia over the Internet in a Los Angeles courtroom.
2006: Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings see their reunion, BACHMAN CUMMINGS SONGBOOK peak on Billboard’s albums chart at #8.
2007: The B-Girls reform to headline an all girls show on Mother’s Day at Jeff Healey’s Roadhouse in Toronto.
2008: April Wine re-release a 1981 concert in London, England on DVD, appropriately entitled LIVE IN LONDON.
2011: Famed producer Jack Richardson dies peacefully in his London, Ontario home at the age of 81.
2013: Col. Chris Hadfield becomes the first person to ever record a song in space, doing a video of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” while commanding the International Space Station.
2016: Bob Bryden and Benzene Jag release the single, “Children of Crisis.”
2017: Viletones and Secrets guitarist Freddy Pompeii succumbs to lung cancer at the age of 70.
2017: Donny Lee releases his debut album, WHO I AM, and its first single, “Country Way of Life.”
2018: Burton Cummings is involved in a two-vehicle collision in Los Angeles. His car is totalled, but he survives minor injuries.
