1945: Bassist Ronnie King of Stampeders is born in Rotterdam, Holland.

1951: Tim Bachman of BTO is born in Winnipeg.

1954: The Crew Cuts top Billboard’s chart for the first and only time with “Sh’Boom.”

1966: Bobby Curtola enters the Canadian pop chart at #95 with “Wildwood Days.”

1969: Joni Mitchell is on stage at the Atlantic City Pop Festival in Hamilton Township. NJ. She leaves after the first song when a rousing chorus of boo’s reportedly brings her to tears.

1969: Neil Young is in New York City at the Wollman Skating Rink during the Schaefer Music Festival.

1972: Bob McBride is at Thunder Sound Studios in Toronto, laying down tracks for his debut solo album, BUTTERFLY DAYS.

1977: Patsy Gallant sees “From New York To LA” reach #6 on the UK pop chart.

1979: Pat Travers is opening for Cheap Trick at Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver.

1981: Klaatu plays at the Minden Arena, north of Lindsay, Ontario.

1981: MTV is on the airwaves. The only Canadian song to be played on its first day is April Wine‘s “Just Between You and Me.”

1983: Streetheart is in Regina for a show at the Agridome. The show is taped and used for the LIVE AFTER DARK album later that year.

1983: Blue Peter is on the bill with The Police at Le Spectrum in Montreal.

1995: Unidisc releases SUNGLASSES AT NIGHT – a compilation of Corey Hart‘s debut and the BOY IN THE BOX albums.

1996: Nickelback release the single, “Fly.”

1997: Captain Tractor releases their BOUGHT THE FARM album.

1998: Tragically Hip peak on Billboard’s albums chart at #143 with PHANTOM POWER.

2010: Arcade Fire release their new single, “We Used To Wait.”

2011: Emerson Drive releases the new single, “Sleep It Off” to a Canadian-only audience.

2014: Sass Jordan and the Sarah Smith Trio are at the Portuguese Club in Cambridge, Ont.

2015: Rush’s show at the Forum in LA is their last, the last song ever – “Working Man.” The world is a little worse off.

2015: Artificial Lift are among those taking the stage at The Borealis Music Festival in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

2017: Theory of a Deadman release their new single, “Rx.”

2017: Original Steppenwolf keyboardist Goldy McJohn dies after suffering a heart attack at the age of 72.

2018: Shred Kelly release the single and video for “Jupiter (Any Other Way).”

2019: Stillborn release their new single and video, “Dreams.”

2019: Spoons release their new album, NEW DAY NEW WORLD.
