1948:
Jim Byrnes is born in St. Louis, Missouri as James Thomas Kevin Byrnes.

1951: Terry Draper of
Klaatu is born in Toronto.

1976:
Mahogany Rush is in Saskatoon for a show at the Saskatoon Arena.

1979:
Nick Gilder is in Vancouver, opening for The Cars at Pacific Coliseum.

1982: At the time a Police tribute,
Platinum Blonde are in Kitchener, Ontario to close out a three-night run at the
Coronet Motor Hotel.

1985:
Neil Young and
Joni Mitchell are among the performers in Champagne, Illinois at the first Farm Aid
concert, which would raise $10 million for beleaguered farmers and becomes an annual event.

1989:
Neil Young releases FREEDOM, his hardest album in a decade. A blistering performance
of the opening track, "Rockin' in the Free World," on 'Saturday Night Live' is regarded as one of
that show's best performances.

1999:
Shania Twain wins Entertainer of the Year at the Country Music Association Awards in
Nashville.

2001:
Carolyn Dawn Johnson peaks on Billboard's country chart at #59 with
"So Complicated."

2006: Bruno Mambella, road manager for
Kim Mitchell dies in hospital after a five vehicle pileup near Woodstock, ON.

2007:
The Fables kick off the tour in support of their KINGS & LITTLE ONES album at the St
John's Arts and Culture Centre.

2007:
George Canyon performs at China-Canada: Hand in Hand, a joint concert held in
Vancouver between CCTV (China Central Television) and the CBC to commemorate the one-year countdown of the 2008 Beijing
Olympics. One of the songs performed by Canyon was "What a Fine Jasmine Blossom," a duet with Tang Can, sung
entirely in Mandarin.
