1882: Robert Nathanniel Dett, one of the first black Canadian composers to gain recognition, is born in Drummondville, Ontario.

1952: Claude Morrisson of The Nylons is born in Toronto.

1975: Saturday Night Live debuts on NBC, masterminded by Canadian comedian/producer Lorne Michaels, and featuring Paul Shaffer as band leader, along with a mostly Canadian band.

1975: Andy Kim is on American Bandstand, where he lip synchs his new single, “She Got Me Dancing.”

1979: The rebooted Littlest Hobo debuts on CTV. The weekly adventures of a homeless dog that saves the day for someone featured the theme song by Terry Bush. “Maybe Tomorrow” still makes most ‘greatest Canadian songs’ lists today.

1979: April Wine release their new album, HARDER FASTER, and the first single, “I Like To Rock.”

1982: Powder Blues are in Ottawa for a show at Barrymore’s. The show is taped for radio and tv broadcast.

1986: “Don’t Forget Me (When I’m Gone)” by Glass Tiger peaks at #2 on Billboard.

1986: Triumph is in St Louis, MO for a show at the Kiel Centre.

1986: Loverboy peaks at #12 on Billboard’s chart with “Heaven In Your Eyes.”

1987: Sword is at the Hammersmith Odeon for a second straight night, opening for Motorhead.

1988: Gordon Lightfoot releases the ‘best of’ collection, GORD’S GOLD VOLUME 2.

1989: Loverboy release their compilation album, BIG ONES.

1994: Loverboy release their CLASSICS album.

2002: Thor is in Boston, doing a show at the Cool Ridge Theatre.

2004: Buffalo Springfield bassist Bruce Palmer dies of an apparent heart attack. He was 58.

2005: Great Big Sea releases their THE HARD AND THE EASY album.

2005: Default releases their third album, ONE THING REMAINS.

2008: Whitby Wing Shack & Cyclone Records’ annual Rock N Roll Cancer Benefit Show takes place in Toronto. On the card are Robin Hawkins (son of legendary Ronnie Hawkins), Max Brand and Keith Fraser, Lisa Smith’s Powerhouse and Cory Manahan (a 15 years-old guitar protege) and Smoke Stack Lightning featuring Steve Madden (Prime Rockers, Marshall Law, Reckless), among others.

2009: Cold Lake, Alberta’s Angels To Ashes release their much anticipated debut album ENOCHIAN during a home town concert.

2014: Anvil is in London, Ontario for a show at Eastside Bar & Grill.

2016: Burton Cummings is doing a personal, one-man show at the Showplace Performance Centre in Peterborough, Ontario.

2018: Calvin Vollrath is in Sydney River, BC for a show at the United Protestant Church. Also on the card are the Cape Breton Chorale, Brenda Stubbert, and Kolten MacDonell.

2019: The Derina Harvey Band is in Cold Lake, Alta for a show at The Muster Point.

2019: Freudz Couch release their new single, “Stand Up.”

2019: 54-40 are home in Vancouver for a show at the Commodore Ballroom.

2019: Big Dave MacLean releases his new album, POCKET FULL OF NOTHIN’.

2019: Oliver’s Twisted Family is on stage at St Jerome, Quebec, part of the festival Le son de la fougere.

2019: The Dead South release their new album, SUGAR AND JOY.
