1929: Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians make their first annual New Year’s Eve broadcast over the CBS network from the Roosevelt Grill in New York City.

1947: Burton Lorne Cummings is born in Winnipeg.

1954: Charlie Major is born in Aylmer, Quebec.

1960: Canada’s National Youth Orchestra make its debut at Massey Hall in Toronto.

1966: It’s the third of a four night run at Boris’ in Toronto for Paupers and Luke & The Apostles.

1966: Buffalo Springfield begins a 10 night stand in New York City at Ordine’s.

1968: Frank Sinatra releases his signature song, “My Way,” written by Paul Anka.

1971: Bob Dylan comes on stage during The Band‘s New Year’s Eve concert at the New York Academy of Music, performing four songs with them. The show becomes The Band‘s ROCK OF AGES album.

1971: Mashmakhan is on the card for the Winter Pop show at the Montreal Forum.

1971: David Clayton-Thomas plays his last show with Blood Sweat and Tears in New York. The band reforms four years later.

1972: Paul Hoffert plays his last show with Lighthouse in Toronto, until their brief reunion a few years later. They reform again in the mid ’90s.

1978: CBS airs “New Year’s Eve with Guy Lombardo for the final time, nearly two years after the band leader’s death – ending a 22 year radio tradition.

1978: The Blues Brothers and The Grateful Dead are the last acts to ever play at the Winterland Ballroom in San Fransisco.

1979: Max Webster, and special guests Private Eye do a New Year’s Eve Show at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. It’s Max’s last show together for nearly 15 years.

1980: The Glass Band open for David Wilcox in Toronto at El Mocambo.

1981: Then still a trio  54-40 make their live debut at the Smilin’ Buddha Cabaret in Vancouver.

1981: Max Webster, Goddo, and BB Gabor rock Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. Gabor opens the show, and quits halfway through his set because bottles are being thrown at him.

1982: Major Hoople’s Boarding House rocks the Coronet Motor Inn in Kitchener.

1982: It’s Coney Hatch, Saga, and Kim Mitchell in Toronto for a show at Maple Leaf Gardens.

1983: The Band are on a reunion tour and play San Fransisco’s Civic Auditorium.

1984: Bryan Adams takes time from the middle of an extensive North American tour to co-host MTV’s New Year’s Eve Bash.

1984: Corey Hart and Platinum Blonde are in Toronto for a New Year’s show at Maple Leaf Gardens.

1984: Blue Peter is in Halifax for a show at Misty Moon.

1985: New Regime is at Toronto’s Maple Leaf Gardens, opening for Orchestral Maneuvres in the Dark and Thompson Twins.

1986: Triumph and Kick Axe are in Edmonton for a show at Northlands Coliseum.

1994: Burton Cummings celebrates his 47th birthday by beginning his year-long one man tour in Winnipeg.

2002: Kevin MacMichael of Cutting Crew succumbs to lung cancer at the age of 51.

2003: Big Sugar is in Edmonton at the Shaw Conference Centre. It was their last concert until reuniting in 2011.

2005: A New Year’s bash in London, Ont. features The Pursuit of Happiness reuniting for the one time, again.

2007: Walk Off The Earth release their debut album, SMOOTH LIKE STONE ON A BEACH.

2008: The New Year’s Eve party in Edmonton is at The Shaw Conference Centre, and features Lex Justice opening for Big Sugar and Trews.

2008: The Barenaked Ladies‘ reworking of the Hockey Night In Canada theme, a bluegrass twinged copy complete with lyrics, debuts on TSN.

2008: Rawlins Cross are among the entertainment in Halifax at the Grand Parade. It also marks their first show together in eight years, launching a full reunion.

2010: Honeymoon Suite rings in the New Year in Edmonton at Century Casino.

2012: Killjoys reunite for a hometown New Year’s Eve show at This Ain’t Hollywood in Hamilton, Ontario.

2014: Trews close out their Rise In The Wake tour in Halifax at the Casino Nova Scotia.

2015: I Mother Earth and Alert The Medic are in Moncton for a show at Casino New Brunswick.

2015: Prism are in Calgary for a show at Deerfoot Casino.

2015: Harlequin is at home in Winnipeg for a show at The Oak.

2016 Mike McKenna‘s Blues & Boogie New Year’s Eve show goes down at the Black Swan Tavern in Toronto.

2016: Trews are in Cleveland, Ohio at House of Blues for the second of a two-night run.

2016: George Canyon is in Spruce Grove, Alberta for a show at the TransAlta Leisure Centre.

2017: Lex Justice and The Steadies close out a three-night stand, ringing in the new year at Blues on Whyte in Edmonton.

2017: One Horse Blue reunites for a show in Edmonton at Sideliners Pub & Pantry.

2018: Poppa Dawg Rick Halisheff rings in the New Year in Vernon, BC for a show at the Vernon Jazz Club.

2018: Lex Justice is home in Cold Lake for a New Year’s show at the Grand Parlour Theatre.

2018: Honeymoon Suite and Headpins are in Edmonton for a show at Century Casino.

2018: Crazy Jane open for Holly Woods & Toronto at Brass Monkey in Toronto.

2018: Sheepdogs open for Burton Cummings in Niagara Falls, Ont at Live By The Falls. Walk Off The Earth was also scheduled to appear as well, but cancelled after band member Mike Taylor’s death the day before.

2019: House Call and Sven Gali open for I Mother Earth in Oshawa, Ont at The Music Hall.

2019: Dahlia Wakefield is in Cold Lake, Alberta for a show at The Muster Point.
