Based out of Edmonton, Whale & The Wolf was formed in 2013 around Loon Lake, Sask native frontman Ryan Maier, guitarist Brandon Yaggey, and bassist Lucas Holt (both from the Edmonton area). It wasn’t long before their hard work on the local area circuit paid off, and they appeared on the 2015 Edmonton Music Awards show, with “Do It Loud” making the show’s soundtrack album. With their stock rising, thanks in no small part to their live shows and work ethic on the road, their loyal following grew, and they released their self-titled independent debut EP a year later. With a sound that was both intimate and electric, it reached #14 on the iTunes Rock Chart in its first week. On the strength of the singles, “Do It Loud,” “Domino,” and “Shiver,” they got some great radio play, and all three songs made the top 40. In particular, the heavy punch of “Domino” made it a top 10 track in Regina. With drummer Joel Jeschke, they closed out 2016 working on some new material with producer Danny Craig of Default. The new single, “Touch” was on the airwaves the following May, and they once again hit the road across the country. In their short time together, they’ve opened for Theory of a Deadman, Bush, City and Colour, Wolfmother, Awolnation, Mother Mother, Macklemore, and One Bad Son, among others. They also headlined the 2017 Dogpatch Music Festival outside Loon Lake, Saskatchewan. WHALE AND THE WOLF (2016) Touch Man is a Wolf Shiver Domino Do It Loud |
